No sooner had word come through about the domestic release of the Colombian THE DEVIL’S CHILD than we got the announcement about another South American chiller headed our way.

The Uruguayan/Argentinean production THE LAST MATINEE, which just had its U.S. premiere at Panic Fest (see our review here), has been picked up for North American distribution by Dark Star Pictures and Bloody Disgusting. Theatrical play is planned for early this summer, followed by VOD, digital and DVD release in August. Written and directed by Maxi Contenti, the film stars Luciana Grasso, Ricardo Islas, Julieta Spinelli, Franco Duran and Pedro Duarte. The synopsis: “The audience attending the last showing of a horror film in a small downtown cinema are terrorized by a murderer who begins to pick them off, one by one. The only person to notice that something strange is going on is the projectionist’s daughter.”

“I’m very happy to be part of the Dark Star Pictures roster, and super-excited to present my movie to the North American audiences,” Contenti says. “I hope they’ll enjoy the blood-dripping screenings of THE LAST MATINEE.”
