With LONGLEGS scaring up big box office, more Cage craziness is coming to theaters.

Variety reports that Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have picked up North American rights to THE SURFER, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. They’re planning a theatrical release on a date to be confirmed in 2025. THE SURFER was directed by Lorcan Finnegan, one of the genre’s most distinctive current talents, whose filmography includes NOCEBO, VIVARIUM and WITHOUT NAME; Thomas Martin scripted. Cage stars opposite Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little and Charlotte Maggi. The synopsis: “A man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son, but is humiliated by a group of powerful locals and drawn into a conflict that rises with the punishing heat of the summer and pushes him right to his breaking point.”

“Lorcan’s movie is a stunning visual experience with an incredible palette, coupled with Nicolas Cage at his absolute best,” says Lauren Bixby, Lionsgate’s senior VP of acquisitions and co-productions. “We could not be more proud to bring this film to theaters.”
