MGM and Orion Pictures have confirmed that Aubrey Plaza (pictured) and Brian Tyree Henry are starring in the new CHILD’S PLAY reboot, and that production has begun.
Plaza, whose previous genre outing was LIFE AFTER BETH, plays Karen (Catherine Hicks in the 1988 original), the mom who gives her son Andy (LIGHTS OUT’s Gabriel Bateman) a doll that turns out to be imbued with a sinister soul. Henry has the Chris Sarandon role of Mike, the detective investigating the bloodshed. The film is shooting in Vancouver under the direction of Lars Klevberg (POLAROID), from a script by Tyler Burton Smith. The producers are David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, who were also part of the team behind IT, and the creative team includes director of photography Brendan Uegama (RIVERDALE, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA), production designer Dan Hermansen, editor Tom Elkins (ANNABELLE, the HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT films), costume designer Jori Woodman and special effects supervisor Dan Keeler; no word yet on who’s voicing Chucky.
