Darkwave musical artist Eric Oberto’s “Closer Than Ever Before” is featured in the upcoming, and highly anticipated theatrical release film MALIBU HORROR STORY.
According to Oberto, it’s a dark and driving dancefloor groove that’s perfect for any DJ playlist. Lyrically, it’s a warning that the sands of the hourglass are in limited supply, and time is running out on life with every moment that goes past. The music video paints a picture of a man running from himself and his past while racing against his own mortality. It’s a beautiful mix of dark imagery that’s drenched in vibrant colors and characters, and it all takes place in a cold industrial setting. While being stalked by ‘Death’ himself, he encounters memories from his past and startling entities that chase him closer to that final closing door. Just like a nightmare!
This song is Eric Oberto’s 3rd single release as a solo artist. This music video release marks the second collaboration between Oberto and Cleopatra Records recording artist- Erik Gustafson of Adoration Destroyed. Both Eric and Erik shared the honor of Co-Directing the music video shoot, while Eric Oberto took on the role of Producer, with the invaluable help of Video Shoot Production Manager Micha Marie Stevens. Erik Gustafson brilliantly handled the cinematography and all of the post-production/editing work for the music video. The end result of this collaboration is a badass music video that truly captures the essence of the song.
Erik Gustafson says of the experience, “following up from working together on the remix of “Darkness Never Lies”, we decided it would be amazing to team up again on the music video for “Closer Than Ever Before”. Eric gave us the green light to brainstorm character and storyline ideas for the video, based on the song theme, and together with EGCine Co-Owner Gaby (of Eva X), we came up with something that I feel resonated with us all. Couple that with casting several of Eric Oberto’s previous horror movie cast and crew, and we have something truly next level (as far as music videos go)! The shoot took place in a fantastic older Dallas building, which also kind of became a character of its own. The clip was shot with 2 Blackmagic 4K cameras, using Meike cinema lenses, and Aputure lighting. I’m super proud of our work together with Eric Oberto and look forward to working with him again!”
