Indie auteur Mickey Reece, the filmmaker behind Agnes and Climate of the Hunter, is back with another surreal genre-bender. Set in 1994, COUNTRY GOLD stars Reece as up-and-coming country crooner Troyal Brux. Brux’s life takes a turn for the weird when he is invited on a night on the town in Nashville by the legendary George Jones – who is scheduled to be cryogenically frozen the next day.
Reece, who has been described as “one of the DIY indie world’s best-kept secrets,” co-wrote the script with his longtime creative partner John Selvidge. Kassie Gann (Chicken House) serves as producer. The film is executive produced by former Blumhouse and Divide/Conquer alum Zac Locke and Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness curator Peter Kuplowsky.
COUNTRY GOLD will premiere this summer at the famed Fantasia International Film Festival in Montréal, QC. Check out the teaser trailer below!
