An unfortunate casualty of Relativity Media’s financial woes, Mike Flanagan’s supernatural thriller BEFORE I WAKE is finally emerging from Stateside release limbo in January.
Flanagan, the acclaimed director of films like GERALD’S GAME, HUSH and OCULUS, took to Twitter to announce, “After almost four years of intense frustration, I’m thrilled to confirm that Netflix will release BEFORE I WAKE in the U.S. on January 5.” Filmed in late 2013 under the title SOMNIA, BEFORE I WAKE, scripted by Flanagan and Jeff Howard, is an intelligent and accomplished horror/drama starring Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane as a married couple grieving the death of their young son. They decide to adopt an 8-year-old boy named Cody (ROOM and WONDER’s Jacob Tremblay), and discover that his dreams manifest in real life—and unfortunately, the same happens with his nightmares. Netflix previously released BEFORE I WAKE in the rest of the world this past April.
