Marvel’s mutants have a new predator to worry about. Alien vs. X-Men #1 is on sale now, kicking off a four issue crossover between the X-Men and the Xenomorphs of the Alien franchise, courtesy of X-Men veteran Chris Claremont, working alongside Kieron Gillen.
The premise: The X-Men go looking for a Phoenix egg in deep space and come home with something considerably worse – a shipment of what’s described only as “deadly cargo” unleashes a Xenomorph outbreak, dropping a young Kitty Pryde into the crossfire between the Brood, the team’s own recurring alien antagonists, and a fresh infestation of the Alien franchise’s killing machines. Geraldo Borges handles interior art, with covers by Ryan Stegman and Ivan Shavrin.
Gillen says that Alien shaped how he thought about storytelling as a teenager, calling this crossover “bucket list stuff” and describing the pitch as sending the X-Men on “an X-press elevator to hell.” Claremont, who wrote much of the X-Men’s defining Brood storylines back in the 1980s, adds that it’s a chance to pit his deadliest alien predators against their movie counterparts, “with Kitty caught in the middle.”
Alien vs. X-Men #1 is a 34 page issue priced at $5.99 USD, with a rotating set of variant covers. It’s available now at comic shops, and full creative team and issue details can be found on Marvel’s own listing for the issue; digital purchase through Marvel Unlimited or the Marvel app was not yet live as of this writing.
