The long-mooted small-screen prequel to the classic fright-film franchise is a step closer to happening.
Variety reports that Linda Cardellini has been cast in the lead role of Pamela Voorhees in A24 and Peacock’s FRIDAY THE 13TH prequel series CRYSTAL LAKE. Pamela, of course, is the mother of Jason Voorhees, who went on a killing spree in the first FRIDAY film to avenge her son’s death due to a couple of careless counselors, before he became the movies’ central villain with PART 2. The long-in-development CRYSTAL LAKE currently has Brad Caleb Kane (IT: WELCOME TO DERRY) on board as creator, writer, showrunner and one of the executive producers. The latter also include original FRIDAY scriptwriter Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian and Stuart Manashil. Cardellini had one of her first prominent roles in Dee Snider’s STRANGELAND before breaking out on TV’s FREAKS AND GEEKS; she has since appeared in two SCOOBY-DOO features, THE LAZARUS PROJECT and THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA.
