There’s been talk of a big-budget remake of Troma’s cult classic THE TOXIC AVENGER for decades, and now it seems like it’s actually happening, with an exciting choice of filmmaker at the helm.
Variety reports that Macon Blair will write and direct the new TOXIC AVENGER for Legendary Entertainment. He’s taking on the campy, gory superheroics after being part of much darker, more somber studies of violence as an actor and occasional scriptwriter, frequently teaming with director Jeremy Saulnier on standout thrillers like BLUE RUIN, GREEN ROOM and HOLD THE DARK. He made his directorial debut on the more blackly comedic crime film I DON’T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE., which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and is now available on Netflix. Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are producing the AVENGER update, along with Legendary’s Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter.
Had no interest in doing this with Toxie. Is nothing sacred? But now im excited. How about Derek Mears for Toxie?
