For most couples, pregnancy is meant to be one of life’s cherished memories. In THE FETUS, however, the impending arrival of new life quickly turns into a grotesque nightmare, proving that sometimes, the stork delivers more than just joy. Starring Bill Moseley and Lauren LaVera, the latest from Shining Light Pictures takes a darkly humorous look at offspring born under a bad sign.

The film’s synopsis reads:

“When a couple’s unexpected pregnancy takes a terrifying turn, they discover their unborn child is no ordinary baby, but a half-human, half-demonic creature with a thirst for blood. As the creature grows stronger, it leaves behind a trail of carnage that forces the couple into a desperate fight for survival. Haunted by visions and hunted by forces tied to the demon world, they must uncover the truth before the birth, or risk unleashing unspeakable horror. But in a world where love collides with terror, they soon realize the greatest danger may not be the monster inside the womb, but the evil that brought it to life. A shocking blend of practical creature effects, dark comedy and relentless dread, THE FETUS delivers a blood-soaked vision of parental fear pushed to the ultimate extreme.”

Says the film’s director, Joe Lam, who also pulled double duty as the project’s writer: “The concept of THE FETUS came from my desire to create something I hadn’t seen before. Doing something truly unique in horror is difficult, but I wanted to push the genre’s boundaries, utilize practical creature effects, and explore a story with deep, meaningful characters.”

THE FETUS is currently available to rent or purchase on most major platforms, including Amazon Prime.

Ever since watching CREEPSHOW as a child, Kevin Hoover has spent a lifetime addicted to horror (and terrified of cockroaches). He wholeheartedly believes in the concept of reanimating the dead if only we’d give it the old college try, and thinks FRIDAY THE 13th PART V is the best in the franchise. Aside from writing “Cryptid Cinema Chronicles” for Rue Morgue, he’s been a working copywriter for over a decade and you’ve probably bought something with his words on it. He also believes even the worst movie can be improved with buckets of gore.
