In a brand new horror/thriller series that debuted today on Amazon Prime, Dominique Fishback stars as Dre, a Twitter stan of [insert pop-star here]-analogue, Ni’jah. Ni’jah is the creation of Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) and SWARM co-creator Janine Nabors (Atlanta), whose online fanbase resembles that of global superstars like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, or Nicki Minaj. Featuring Glover’s razor-sharp cultural commentary crossed with the descent into madness of a young woman who finds herself left with nothing but her love for a celebrity she has never met, SWARM is an electrifying and binge-inducing watch that will make you question your own parasocial relationships through social media and celebrity pop culture.

Donald Glover/Childish Gambino at the premiere of SWARM
Alongside the premiere of the series on Amazon Prime, the SWARM crew released an EP of the same name, featuring the music of “Ni’jah,” voiced by KIRBY and produced by Childish Gambino. Glover executive produced the songs with Michael Uzowuru, with contributions from Fam Udeorji, Teo Halm, Jeff Kleinman, and more. The series also features a supporting performance from alt-pop star Billie Eilish, who plays the character of “Eva.” By skewering the hivemind of celebrity stan culture, with no shortage of blood nor frightening moments, SWARM is a must-watch show of the spring, with an uncommon and extremely welcome musical component.
SWARM is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video.
