The extensive study of 1980s horror cinema has an equally in-depth print counterpart on the way.
Publisher Dark Ink gave RUE MORGUE the word that it has partnered with CreatorVC, creator of the documentary triptych IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS, on a coffee-table book of the same title by longtime writers/critics Heather Wixson and Patrick Bromley. The hardcover tome, illustrated with hundreds of photos, takes a detailed look at ’80s fright films, covering more than 200 chillers featured in the DARKNESS docs (in which–full disclosure–this writer appears). In addition to essays on each movie, the book will include horror icon features, “Year in Review” pages, box-office figures and a checklist for readers to note which of these flicks they’ve seen. The limited-edition, numbered coffee-table version is now available for pre-order ($84.19) here through the end of this summer, and ships in early 2024; a mass-market edition will be available in the fall of next year. The first 1,000 people to pre-order will get their names in the book and an “I Love 80s Horror” gift pack, including a stadium cup, TV squishy, bracelet, sticker and 11×17 checklist poster, with 100 8×10 photos signed by horror legends randomly inserted into the orders.
“The ISOD film series is truly a horror fan’s dream documentary,” says Dark Ink owner Michael Aloisi. “We are excited to expand upon what CreatorVC created and make the ultimate book on ’80s horror.” Adds CreatorVC founder/CEO Robin Block, “As executive producer, I’m excited to present this definitive tribute to the films that thrilled, chilled, and forever changed the face of horror.”
