Continuing to expand into the television and streaming worlds, Blumhouse has signed a deal with Hulu to create a new horror anthology series, set to premiere in October.

Variety reports that the currently entitled series will consist of 12 standalone episodes that will nonetheless be linked by a narrative or structural device. As opposed to the typical strategy of releasing streaming series all at once for binging purposes, this show will have one episode released each month. Creative talent has yet to be attached, and the series will offer filmmakers artistic freedom in exchange for modest budgets and schedules.

“At the heart of the deal is an extremely passionate audience and an extremely activateable audience in terms of horror,” says Hulu chief content officer Joel Stillerman. “It’s not even the larger bucket of ‘genre.’ I would say this falls squarely into the horror bucket. And it’s brought to us by, I would say in many ways that would be hard to argue, the consummate producers in that genre today.” Blumhouse Television is also working on a series spinoff of its popular THE PURGE film franchise for USA and Syfy.
