Shock the Vote ATX (an inclusive, nonpartisan, community-building program aimed at increasing voter turnout in and around Austin, Texas) has partnered with award-winning horror director Chris McInroy (We Summoned a Demon) to discuss the monstrous consequences of voter apathy. GORGAR, a horror comedy PSA produced by Kris Phipps of Renegade Studios and Garth Manor, tells the story of two men who throw away their chance to vote in favor of couch-surfing and eating sandwiches. The results end up being more horrifying than they could imagine.
“When Kris Phipps of Garth Manor Cinema asked if I wanted to make a horror-themed voting PSA for Shock the Vote ATX I knew I had to do it,” says McInroy. “They are a stellar organization and voting is more important than ever this year. I wanted to make something fun, quick, and in my style that will hopefully get some eyeballs on it and encourage people to get out and vote. Everyone came together to support the cause and make this thing, it was magical. Don’t be like the dudes in this short, make your voice heard. Nobody wants a Gorgar as president. Oh, and I apologize to people who don’t like gore in their PSAs.”
Watch the PSA below, and since today is National Voter Registration Day, it’s the perfect time to check your status and help spread the word. Sandwiches everywhere are counting on you!
