One of the master filmmaker’s longest-mooted projects is becoming a reality.

Deadline reports that Guillermo del Toro, who just won the Best Animated Feature Oscar for PINOCCHIO, is writing and will direct an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN for Netflix. He’s wanted to put his spin on the classic tale for many years now, though it has yet to be revealed if it will be a period piece or set in modern times. Deadline also reports that he has met with Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac and modern horror sensation Mia Goth (X, PEARL) about starring in the film, and all three are on board to take roles in the film. It isn’t clear which roles the male leads would take, though it is believed Goth would play Dr. Frankenstein’s love interest. With del Toro currently working on the script, a start date has yet to be announced; we’ll bring you more on this very exciting project as it comes to light!
