One of the most acclaimed adaptations of Mary Shelley’s novel is getting a hi-def disc showcase, and the complete details have been revealed; see them and the art after the jump.
Shout! Factory releases 1973’s made-for-TV FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY, directed by Jack Smight from a teleplay by Christopher Isherwood and Don Bachardy, and starring Leonard Whiting as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Michael Sarrazin as his creation, James Mason, David McCallum, Jane Seymour and Nicola Pagett, on March 24 as part of the Scream Factory line. The Blu-ray will feature a new 2K scan from the original film elements of the two-part, 186-minute version including the introduction by Mason, presented in 1080p high definition. Special features are:
- New audio commentary by filmmaker/film historian Sam Irvin
- New “Off with Her Head”: an interview with actress Jane Seymour
- New “Victor’s Story”: an interview with actor Leonard Whiting
- New “Frankenstein’s Diary”: a conversation with writer Don Bachardy
