Five Nights at Freddy’s is crossing over into Fortnite, Epic Games confirmed this week, ending months of leaks and speculation about the animatronic horror franchise’s arrival in the battle royale as part of this year’s Fortnitemares event.
A new trailer shows the Fazbear Band overtaking Fortnite’s island, with players facing off against boss-sized versions of the games’ animatronic mascots. “The Fazbear Band has taken over Battle Royale,” reads Epic’s official description. “Face the animatronic animal bosses and survive the night… if you can.” Epic has said additional Fortnitemares reveals, presumably including specific cosmetics and modes tied to the collaboration, are still to come.
Rumours of the collaboration had circulated since early September, when dataminers reported finding Five Nights at Freddy’s-related files bundled into a Fortnite game update; Epic and the Freddy Fazbear’s team kept the partnership under wraps until this week’s official confirmation.
Five Nights at Freddy’s, created by Scott Cawthon, has grown from a 2014 indie point-and-click game into one of horror’s most durable modern franchises, spinning off numerous sequel games, a bestselling series of novels, and two feature films distributed through Blumhouse and Universal. A crossover with Fortnite, whose Halloween events have previously folded in properties like Stranger Things and Chucky, puts Freddy Fazbear and company in front of an audience of hundreds of millions, many of whom will be meeting the animatronics for the first time.
Specific cosmetics haven’t been officially detailed, and unconfirmed leaks purporting to show individual skins have circulated among dataminers; Rue Morgue has not been able to verify those against an official source and isn’t reproducing them here.
Fortnitemares 2026 begins October 1.
