A pair of horror specialists will be giving the acclaimed chiller wider exposure.

Dark Star Pictures has announced that it picked up North American distribution rights to HONEYDEW as the first title it will handle in a new collaboration with Bloody Disgusting. The two companies will open it theatrically in March 2021, with VOD/digital and DVD releases to follow in April. The directorial debut of Devereux Milburn, who also scripted, HONEYDEW stars Sawyer Spielberg (son of Steven in his acting debut), Malin Barr and Barbara Kingsley; according to the official synopsis, “HONEYDEW tells the story of a young couple [Spielberg and Barr] who are forced to seek shelter in the home of an aging farmer [Kingsley] and her peculiar son, when they suddenly begin having strange cravings and hallucinations taking them down a rabbit hole of the bizarre.

“I’m so excited that HONEYDEW has found its home with Dark Star and Bloody Disgusting, two pre-eminent forces in the horror genre,” Milburn says. “The film has truly been a labor of love, and I cannot wait to release it into the world and watch audiences eat it up.”

“Writer/director Devereux Milburn has expertly crafted a macabre vision oozing with style that will have genre fans and cinephiles salivating for what he brings next,” says Dark Star president Michael Repsch. “There could not be a better film to launch our new partnership with the Bloody Disgusting team, who have been and continue to be a staple of the genre community.”

“Dark Star is an exciting young company and we know they’re the perfect partner for the Bloody Disgusting brand,” says BD co-founder Brad Miska. “Together, we’re going to unleash hell on the horror community with an onslaught of fresh genre releases.” HONEYDEW had its world premiere as part of this fall’s Nightstream festival, and Milburn won Best Director at FrightFest UK; see our review of the movie here.
