Expanded “NIGHT OF THE LIVING TAPES” book takes a deep dive into the zombie classic’s video history

There’s a wealth of new material in this updated publication.

Death Cult Press has opened up pre-orders for the Expanded Edition of NIGHT OF THE LIVING TAPES, author Geoff Turner’s meticulous catalog of the video saga of George A. Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. As zombie fans know, Romero’s landmark film went out without a copyright notice, leading to endless public-domain editions on VHS, Beta and beyond, as well as special-edition discs—and they’re all covered here. Originally issued in 2021 at 188 pages, the book has now been augmented to 305 pages, with the following upgrades:

  • New cover artwork by Rick Catizone (animator for NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, CREEPSHOW, EVIL DEAD II and more)
  • 10 additional chapters covering the entire distribution history of the film
  • 11 new appendices covering a range of topics related to NOTLD and physical media
  • Updated physical media checklists for all major formats cataloging nearly 650 variant releases from 26 countries

Officially licensed by Image Ten, Inc., NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD’s original producers, the book will be available for pre-sale at the Death Cult Press website from now until midnight on July 24. The exclusive pre-order package includes the hardcover book, signed bookplate, VHS bookmark, VHS sticker, exclusive trading card and a Death Cult Press button. The first 75 orders placed will also receive a free “Cemetery Entrance” enamel pin. The price is $50 plus shipping and handling, and shipping is tentatively set to begin September 1.
