EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Won’t Stay Dead’s “LAY BESIDE HER” is a Fulci-Inspired Fever Dream

If you want to make a mark in the music industry, do it in the biggest, bloodiest way possible.

So is the tenet of Chicago’s Won’t Stay Dead. The band’s debut video, LAY BESIDE HER (from the Vindication album published by Red Scare), drenches signature metal riffs in copious amounts of arterial spray in an homage to Italian splatter flicks.

For metalheads and gorehounds in search of pure visceral intensity, look no further—RUE MORGUE is excited to offer an exclusive first look at the video:

“LAY BESIDE HER is about finding out someone you trusted has lied to you, and slowly unraveling the mystery of their deception,” says vocalist and bass guitarist Saffron Lair. “It’s also full of references to Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond.”

Inspiration and ideas are but part of the equation for any production; giving them a living, breathing existence requires the infusion of lifeblood by a skilled visual hand.

“This is our first ever music video, so we came to set not fully knowing what to expect,” admits Lair. “Director Craig Bass and his crew at Year of the Phoenix Productions blew us away with their passion, talent and professionalism. We feel really fortunate to have worked with them, and we had a lot of fun making some really cool art together. We wanted to come out swinging with our first video, and Craig helped us do just that by making our blood-drenched Giallo dreams come true.”

Those interested in experiencing Won’t Stay Dead up close can do so at the following events:

5/13 – Toronto, ON at Bovine Sex Club
