Exclusive poster & photos, plus teaser: Japanese all-practical-effects showcase “SUBJUGATION”

This creature feature tackles a frightening real-life situation.

Writer/director/producer Doug Roos (BAKEMONO, THE SKY HAS FALLEN) sent along the exclusive poster (by Justin Cook) and images seen below for his latest movie, SUBJUGATION. The film, which he’s starting to send out to festivals, stars Karen Yoshida, Tsukasa, Atsuto Fujita and Hideyuki Chida; Jun’ichi Yamamoto, director of the two MEATBALL MACHINE movies, is the executive producer. The synopsis: “Beneath the glossy exterior of Japanese society, they pull the strings of everything. Rich powerful men who can transform into monsters at will and brainwash others with their insidious signal. In this not-too-distant future, more and more women fall prey until Tokyo’s streets reek of death.”

“This is another crazy practical-effects monster movie,” Roos says, “which deals with the stalking crisis in Japan now. It has been increasing for the last 10 years, and 2024 saw the largest number of cases ever. WICKED CITY and THE CROW were my biggest influences on this.” We’ll keep you posted on when and where SUBJUGATION will arise for viewing; the movie’s Kickstarter page is still open for late pledges.
