The horror takes place during a real-life dark period in Argentina’s history.
Writer/director Lucio A. Rojas (TRAUMA) has wrapped the supernatural chiller PROFANÍA after seven months of preproduction and seven weeks of shooting in the Argentine province of Córdoba, and sent along the stills and behind-the-scenes pics seen above and below. Germán Baudino, Cristian Cavo, Tutú Vidaurre, Vitorio Cucinelli, Clara Kovacic, Antonio Kassab, Matías Albarracin, Daniel Merlini and Ximena del Solar star; the synopsis: “PROFANÍA tells the story of an army patrol headed by Sergeant Bruno [Baudino]. During the martial law period that takes place in Argentina in late 2001, the patrol is on a control mission deep in the fields of Córdoba, where they awaken a dark, perverse entity, who will submit them to a nightmarish evening while they fight for their lives.”
“The project came to be during 2021, it began taking its current shape in early 2022 and ended now with a bang,” Rojas says. “The movie is a hybrid of action, horror, fantasy and gore. It’s very ambitious, speaking technically, artistically, and performance-wise; and it presents us with a fantasy scenario that we’re sure will become a production referent upon its release.”
Adds director of photography Diego G. Medina, “It was interesting to explore the universe of PROFANÍA through photography and the camera. We mixed different aesthetic resources to paint each of the scenes with light and shadows. Accompanying the story in some situations with sequence shots was stimulating and profitable from the technical and narrative point of view. The challenge was to balance so many characters in the scene, to achieve fantastic photographic climates and to accompany the practical effects.”
Rojas says that PROFANÍA will begin its extensive postproduction next month; keep your eyes here for updates on its release!
