It’s a cross-generational study of fear.
Writer/directors Julia Kern and Michael Prieto’s horror short MARGE has its world premiere Saturday, October 3 at Los Angeles’ Beyond Fest, as part of the Family Business block at 1 p.m. Rachel Matthews from the HAPPY DEATH DAY films,Liv Davenport and Devon Ross star; the synopsis: “Sadie [Ross] is a twenty-something woman, sitting petrified on the bathroom floor. She’s just found out she’s pregnant, which forces her to consider if she would be anything like her own mother…
“…It’s a last day of summer like any other: the television plays reruns of classic sitcoms, ten-year-old Sadie [Davenport] bemoans the first day of school, and her mother [Matthews]—whom she calls by her first name, Marge—improvises parental advice in between puffs of cigarettes.
“Suddenly, strange sounds emerge from a baby monitor on the table. Marge goes to the basement to take care of it. In all of Sadie’s young life, she’s never dared to open her mother’s door. But, tonight is different. Tonight she opens it. Tonight she discovers her mother is a serial killer…
“…But now becoming a mother herself, Sadie suddenly finds herself understanding Marge in a way she never has before.”
MARGE will then have its East Coast premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival on Saturday, October 17, and plays FilmQuest in Provo, Utah on Monday, October 26.
