The interactive novel hits on April Fool’s Day, and that’s no joke.

RUE MORGUE got a couple of art samples (see them below) from BETRAYAL & BLACK LACE, a “Forge Your Freaky Fate” book inspired by the world of Steven Kostanski’s film FRANKIE FREAKO. Releasing April 1 from Encyclopocalypse Publications, it was written by Bret Nelson, who has previously adapted PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE and MANBORG to the printed page and says, “This isn’t a novelization of the film. It’s much, much more: an erotic thriller where you, the reader, forge your own freaky fate.” The synopsis: “In the book, fan-favorite character Boink Bardo finds himself thrust into a lurid, neon-soaked 1990s-style erotic thriller, and readers control what happens next. Structured as a classic Choose Your Own Adventure–inspired experience, BETRAYAL & BLACK LACE offers more than a dozen possible endings, each shaped by the reader’s decisions.”

Illustrated by Stew Miller, the book sports a cover by DC animation veteran Amanda Dempsey and a foreword by Kostanski, who tells RUE MORGUE, “I’m thrilled to be collaborating once again with Encyclopocalyse and Bret Nelson with their Boink-tastic spinoff of the FRANKIE FREAKO universe. It’s as wild and freaky as the movie itself, and a great way for readers to get more Boink in their lives!”

“BETRAYAL & BLACK LACE exists against all odds, and has shaved years off my life, which is my favorite kind of project,” says Encyclopocalypse founder Mark Alan Miller. “I’ll follow Bret Nelson and Steven Kostanski to Freakworld any time.” BETRAYAL is now available for pre-order as a mass market paperback and an e-book at the Encyclopocalypse website.
