The filmmakers who unleashed a pack of ravenous, Earthbound small furry animals are now behind a reboot of the popular franchise about furballs from outer space.
Variety reports that ZOMBEAVERS writer/director Jordan Rubin and co-scripters Jon Kaplan and Al Kaplan are reteaming on CRITTERS: A NEW BINGE, a series from Blue Ribbon Content, Abominable Pictures and Warner Bros. Television’s digital division for Verizon go90. Rubin and the Kaplans will also executive-produce, with the original films’ Rupert Harvey and Barry Opper serving as producers. The storyline concerns the critters, a.k.a. Krites, returning to our planet to retrieve one of their own, who was left behind here years ago during a previous mission. They wind up terrorizing a group of Burbank, CA teenagers and their families.
The fur also flies in another project from Blue Ribbon for Verizon, called GOLDEN REVENGE, in which three pets who were left for dead by their owners set out to take bloody revenge on those who abandoned them. Tom Stern (co-writer and co-director of FREAKED with Alex Winter) will direct, and also script with Josh Gardner; Blue Ribbon is teamed with Retrofit Films and Conan O’Brien’s Conaco LLC on this one. Both series will get rolling in early 2018.
