Move over, Art. Step aside, Pennywise. Get thee behind me, Captain Spaulding. There’s a new candy-colored killer on the genre block – and this horror harlequin is making his mark in the least expected places. Frendo, the grotesque greasepaint goon from CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD ran amok on Austin’s South by Southwest festival (SXSW) earlier this month, freaking out patrons and raising awareness about RLJE Films and Shudder‘s upcoming fright flick all over Texas’ weirdest city. Check out Frendo’s frightful antics in the gallery below.
CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD, directed by Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) and co-written by Craig and Carter Blanchard from Adam Cesare‘s Bram Stoker Award-winning 2020 YA novel (yes folks, this was a book!), is the story of Kettle Springs, a sleepy farm community that falls on hard times after its corn syrup factory burns down. However, events take a turn for the terrifying when a mysterious grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to “cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time.” Katie Douglas (Level 16), Aaron Abrams (Code 8), Carson MacCormac (Shazam!), Kevin Durand (Abigail) and Will Sasso (Young Sheldon) star.
CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD from RLJE Films and Shudder arrives only in theaters on May 9.
