The killer doll has a brand new brand name in next year’s reboot of CHILD’S PLAY, which has been given a release date and a poster that you can see past the jump.
Orion Pictures has announced that the new CHILD’S PLAY will hit theaters June 21, 2019. Directed by Lars Klevberg (POLAROID) from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith, it retains the character names from Tom Holland and Don Mancini’s original—Mom Karen (Aubrey Plaza), who buys a doll imbued with evil for her little son Andy (Gabriel Bateman), and investigating detective Mike (Brian Tyree Henry)—though the poster reveals that the Good Guys brand has been rechristened “Buddi.” One assumes the particular deadly doll itself will retain the Chucky moniker, but that’s not confirmed, nor has the actor voicing the tiny fiend been revealed. Beatrice Kitsos (Fox’s THE EXORCIST), Ty Consiglio and Carlease Burke are also part of the cast, and the producers are David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith (IT). Other remakes on the Orion slate are NIGHT OF THE COMET, being scripted by SOUTHBOUND’s Roxanne Benjamin, and RIFT, which will be written by Erlingur Óttar Thoroddsen from his Icelandic chiller RÖKKUR.
