The many shocking sights are being presented on big screens, fully uncensored and restored.
Grindhouse Releasing has begun theatrical playdates for its 4K presentation of Ruggero Deodato’s notorious 1980 shocker CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. The movie, in which a documentary crew disappears in the Amazon rainforest, and a team that goes to rescue them discovers their horrible fate, has been restored with the doc team’s horrific footage shown in its native 16mm aspect ratio for the first time. “It’s a whole new and perhaps even more powerful experience watching the movie this way, with the alternating aspect ratios,” says Grindhouse owner and Oscar-winning film editor (THE HURT LOCKER, SEND HELP) Bob Murawski. “This is essentially the same way we constructed Orson Welles’ long-unfinished masterpiece THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND.”
The new CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST will screen at the following venues/dates:
- June 2: Alamo Drafthouse City Foundry, St. Louis, MO
- June 12: Alamo Drafthouse, Indianapolis, IN
- June 21: Hollywood Theatre, Portland, OR
- June 28 (35mm): Mahoning Drive-In, Lehighton, PA
- June 30: Alamo Drafthouse DFW, Dallas, TX
- June 30: Alamo Drafthouse Woodbury, Minneapolis, MN
- June 30: Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh, Raleigh, NC
- July 10: Cinema Arts Centre, Huntington, NY
- July 25: Imagine Cinemas, London, ON
- September 5: Revue Cinema, Toronto, ON
- September 19: Guild Cinema, Albuquerque, NM
- October 3: Northwest Film Forum, Seattle, WA
