Having enjoyed success with 2023’s I’ll Crush Y’all, actor Mario Mayo returns to Fantastic Fest in LUGER, a brutal and darkly funny thriller from director Bruno Martín. Pairing Mayo with David Sainz, the film blends brotherly banter with a razor-edged story about power, violence and the lingering specter of fascism.
The film’s synopsis reads as:
“Toni and Rafa are stepbrothers who spend their day ‘taking care’ of sensitive materials for wealthy clients at the behest of their boss. Wisecracking and appropriately intimidating, the two take a run-of-the-mill assignment to reacquire a rich businessman’s car after it is taken hostage due to his extramarital escapades. A mysterious safe in the trunk reveals a Nazi Luger, and the normal job quickly becomes something much darker. The two fixers will have their bond tested as the gun’s possession becomes an increasingly violent affair with a mounting body count.”
LUGER will make its debut at the 20th iteration of the annual film festival in Austin, TX, Sept. 18th-25th, giving fans of high-octane action thrillers similar to Training Day (2001) and Crank (2006) something to add to their viewing schedules.
