British “Dark Artist” Mister Sam Shearon has released his third set of CREEPY CHRISTMAS greeting cards and signed prints, just in time for the holidays.
With this collection, Mister Sam is continuing his “Merry Macabre Winter Warnings” theme that began as a series of “Creepy Christmas” sketches while he was at university in the late ’90s.
“This third series of illustrations depicts some of history’s creepiest winter characters from various folkloric traditions across the world, including some of my own invention,” says Shearon. “I want to remind people that this season – the season of death – is brimming with ghost stories and tales of monsters that visit towns at night or lurk on the edges of forests during the winter months, ready to snatch away the badly behaved or the unwary!”
These creatures and characters include Santa Claws, Belsnickel, the Snow Queen, Rabid Rudolph, creepy snowmen, Gryla, Nuuttipukki (the great black goat-man), and Mari Lwyd (the haunting horse of Welsh folklore) among others – and of course the mighty King Krampus!
“Winter is a time far, far darker than Halloween, something few are aware of!” adds Shearon, noting old holiday traditions of whiling away long, dark, cold winter nights in the company of ghost stories, séances and greeting cards depicting macabre illustrations. “My aim is to celebrate these stories and long-forgotten superstitions and traditions, to bring them back and revive the original meaning of Christmas – it’s dark and it’s creepy!“
The first two collections of Mister Sam Shearon’s CREEPY CHRISTMAS cards are also available. All 40 creatures and characters are spread across three packs, but buyers who claim all three also receive an exclusive card depicting a grumpy lone “Nisse!”
