The terrific new horror film now has a pair of distributors behind it.
We first revealed here that Brainstorm Media will be releasing writer/director Paris Zarcilla’s RAGING GRACE December 8, and now word has come down that the company is teaming with Doppelgänger Releasing, the genre division of Music Box Films, to bring it to theaters. The film took the Grand Jury Awards for Best Film and Best Debut at SXSW, where it world-premiered, and then nabbed The Critics Prize, The Audience Award, and The Youth Award for Best Film at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival. It also played the Fantasia International Film Festival (where we rave-reviewed it), and will have special screenings at Beyond Fest and the Sitges International Film Festival. Max Eigenmann, Jaeden Paige Boadilla, Leanne Best and David Hayman star; the synopsis: “Joy [Eigenmann], an undocumented Filipino immigrant, is struggling to do the best she can for her daughter Grace [Boadilla] when she secures the perfect job: taking care of an extremely wealthy but terminal old man. The new position pays well and guarantees a roof over their heads. But very soon, Joy and Grace start to realize everything is not as it seems. Something is festering beneath the surface, threatening all they have worked for.”
“I am so excited to be working with Brainstorm and Music Box for the North American release of RAGING GRACE,” Zarcilla says. “To be collaborating with them about how we will reach our audiences in the United States and Canada–in cinemas and at home–is a massive step closer towards a goal that was birthed from a fire of rage during the first lockdown. That goal was to offer a cathartic spectacle to all that have struggled to say we are here and we belong.”
“The film captured our attention at SXSW where it was rightfully honored with the festival’s top prize,” says Brainstorm CEO Michelle Shwarzstein. “So rarely is a film so successful as both a social critique and a genuinely scary movie. Already during the film’s festival run, Paris’s first feature has impressed and moved audiences. We can’t wait to work with Music Box to bring this very special film to a wide audience.”
Adds Music Box Films’ Brian Andreotti, “We’re thrilled to be working with Brainstorm on Paris Zarcilla’s bold and imaginative new film. RAGING GRACE offers a unique combination of unsettling thrills and smart social commentary, making it a perfect fit for our curated genre label, Doppelgänger Releasing.” Look for more on RAGING GRACE at this site as it gets closer to release.
