By KEVIN HOOVER

Leveraging a life spent as a criminal lawyer informed Michael Slade’s literary pursuits in ways that only come through real-world experience. Now, Open Road Media is re-releasing entries from the author’s famed Special X series of titles about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Currently available are 1984’s Headhunter, as well as Ripper, Burnt Bones, Death’s Door and Red Snow.

Then, on October 8th, five additional titles in the Mountie Noir thriller line will made available: Hangman, Bed of Nails, Swastika, Kamikaze and Crucified.

Plans also include thematic bundles of individual books, all of which builds to the currently subtitled The Last Stand of Special X, concluding the series that began four decades ago.

Visit Open Road Media for more information and to order books from Michael Slade.

Kevin Hoover
Ever since watching CREEPSHOW as a child, Kevin Hoover has spent a lifetime addicted to horror (and terrified of cockroaches). He wholeheartedly believes in the concept of reanimating the dead if only we’d give it the old college try, and thinks FRIDAY THE 13th PART V is the best in the franchise. Aside from writing “Cryptid Cinema Chronicles” for Rue Morgue, he’s been a working copywriter for over a decade and you’ve probably bought something with his words on it. He also believes even the worst movie can be improved with buckets of gore.
