New Zealand-based genre distributor, Black Mandala Pictures, in conjunction with Rome’s Minerva Films, has unleashed the poster and the first images from director Nicolas Onetti‘s upcoming slasher, WHAT THE WATERS LEFT BEHIND: SCARS.
A sequel to the award-winning What the Waters Left Behind, co-directed by Onetti with his brother, Luciano, SCARS tells the story of an American indie rock band that winds up stranded in the village of Epecuén, Argentina, where their “internal conflicts and the bad luck of their tour quickly lose importance before the hell that awaits them.”
WHAT THE WATERS LEFT BEHIND: SCARS was shot on location in the real village of Epecuén, a tourist resort near Buenos Aires that sat underwater for 25 years after a dam broke in 1985. Several years ago, the waters receded, revealing the bleak landscape of the town’s ruins. The residents of Epecuén never returned.
The film is an official selection of the Sitges Coming Soon platform and the Blood Window Market at Ventana Sur in Buenos Aires. The trailer for WHAT THE WATERS LEFT BEHIND: SCARS will have its world premiere at Marche du Film (Festival de Cannes) on May 20. Keep an eye on RUE MORGUE for more details as they come!
