A writer seeking inspiration goes on a very strange vacation in BLOOD PARADISE, an English-language Eurohorror/comedy in the ’70s/Brian De Palma vein that just got picked up for U.S. distribution. Read on for the info and the trailer.

Artsploitation just announced that it has grabbed all North American rights to BLOOD PARADISE, and will team with sales company Aspect Ratio on select theatrical bookings in second quarter 2019, followed by home-video release. A collaboration of German writer/director Patrick von Barkenberg and Swedish writer/producer Andréa Winter (a.k.a. electro-pop musician Baby Yaga), the film premiered at this year’s Scary Movies festival at New York City’s Lincoln Center, and has its international premiere November 12 at Spain’s Molins Film Festival. Winter, who composed the music and songs, also stars, along with Rolf Brunnström, Christer Cavallius, Ellinor Berglund and Ingrid Hedström; the synopsis: “Reeling after her latest novel flops, best-selling crime writer Robin Richards [Winter] is sent by her publisher to the Swedish countryside to regain inspiration. There alone, she comes across an assortment of peculiar characters, including her driver and most obsessive fan, his explosively jealous wife, and the progressively more unhinged man who owns the farm that’s hosting her. Totally out of place in her new surroundings—for one, she is always dressed for glamorous, big-city life—Robin discovers just how dangerous these oddballs may be.”

“Like my music,” Winter says, “Artsploitation explores the dark aspects of ourselves but is also not afraid to embrace the campy and the bizarre. We are thrilled by the prospect of joining the Artsploitation family with our first feature. We love Ray’s visionary catalog of idiosyncratic, provocative cinema that elevates the horror genre in intriguing ways and we are beyond excited to introduce our baby to audiences in North America.”
