The sequel to the Dutch psychochiller hit is coming for its titular city’s 750th anniversary.

Veteran genre filmmaker Dick Maas (THE LIFT, SINT a.k.a. SAINT NICK, PREY a.k.a. UNCAGED) has announced that he has written and will direct AMSTERDAMNED II. The follow-up to his 1988 film (pictured) about a scuba-diving madman claiming victims on and around the canals of the Dutch capital will once again star Maas’ frequent collaborator Huub Stapel. Shooting will take place next year for release in the Netherlands and Belgium in 2025.

“The question was never if, but when a sequel to AMSTERDAMNED would come; it was inevitable!” Maas says. “We were waiting for a script that could live up to the high expectations. That script is now here. Together with Edvard van’t Wout and Diede in’t Veld from 2CFILM, and my good friend Huub Stapel, we are working on a sequel that will surpass the original film in every way. The film will be even more exciting, more spectacular, and at times more blood-curdling than its predecessor. It’s time for a new Dutch popcorn movie.”

Producer van’t Wout says, “A sequel to AMSTERDAMNED was always at the top of my wish list. It’s an honor to be able to work on this spectacular film with film legends Dick Maas and Huub Stapel. Amsterdam, brace yourself.” Adds co-producer in’t Veld, “Amsterdam…a city that is vibrant and bubbling, where you can party and relax, with a boat on the canals, toes dipped in water. But it’s also a city where tension can be found on every street corner and danger sometimes lurks just below the surface. It’s going to be horrifying on the canals of Amsterdam again!”

Says Stapel, “It’s fantastic to work with Dick on this spectacular film after all these years. And now not only as an actor, but as an executive producer, I will use all my experience to help develop the film.” We’ll keep you posted on AMSTERDAMNED II’s progress!
