Sleep paralysis can be a horrifying experience for many. For Buzzfeed writer Adam Ellis, the experience was enough for him to create a Twitter thread about the ordeal. It is on these events that DEAR DAVID is based.
The film is mostly based upon the actual experiences of Ellis, after documenting in a Twitter thread a series of spooky events during bouts of sleep paralysis. During these events, he comes to think he’s being haunted by a spectre by the name of David. The film is produced by Buzzfeed Studios and Lionsgate.
After dealing with online trolls, Adam (Augustus Prew) experiences sleep paralysis involving a rocking chair and a supposed spectre named David. As Adam further documents the weird hauntings through Twitter, what’s real, online or insanity begins to blur as David becomes more malevolent.
DEAR DAVID is directed by John McPhail, with a screenplay written by Mike Van Waes. It stars Augustus Prew, Andrea Bang, Rene Escobar Jr., Cameron Nicoll and Justin Long.
The film releases in theatres, on-demand, and digitally on October 13.
