Arguably the most beautifully shot of all of John Carpenter’s films, 1980’s THE FOG is coming back to big screens in October in glorious 4K.
Rialto Pictures will bring Studiocanal’s first-ever major restoration of THE FOG to New York City’s Metrograph, Los Angeles’ Landmark Nuart and Chicago’s Music Box Theatre for limited runs beginning October 26. The saga of the seaside town of Antonio Bay falling victim to an ancient curse and vengeful pirate ghosts, starring Adrienne Barbeau, Hal Holbrook, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins and Janet Leigh, will also receive special screenings across the country during Halloween week at Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas and other specialty houses. The film has been out of circulation for years thanks to the fading of the existing 35mm prints, and this 4K edition restores Dean Cundey’s cinematography to its full luster. “THE FOG has been our most requested title for as long as we have handled the Studiocanal library here,” says Eric Di Bernardo, Rialto’s director of sales. “It is Carpenter’s most visually alluring film and we think it’s been worth the wait.”
