Exclusive trailer, premiere news: Practical-effects horror/fantasy “THE RELIC | DRAGON”

Photo: Jonathan Williams

It’s a blend of cosmic horror, Viking legend and treasure-hunting adventure.

THE RELIC | DRAGON, the first in a planned series of features, will have its world premiere Wednesday, October 28 at FilmQuest in Provo, UT, followed by a pair of screenings at the Austin Film Festival Sunday, November 1 and Monday, November 2. Written and directed by makeup effects artist (THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, THE DENTIST) J.M. Logan, based on his short film (see it below the trailer), DRAGON stars Taylor Bini, Richard C. Jones, Hollis L. Edwards III, Sarah Jack and Michael Fischer. The synopsis: “When thrill-seeking adventurer Aura [Jack] vanishes while tracking a mysterious artifact, her sister Echo [Bini], a skeptical academic, is forced back into a world she abandoned—a world of myth, conspiracy, and a hidden lineage of secrets stretching back centuries: A cursed Viking treasure tied to ancient madness and destruction; a lost manuscript connected to Spanish conquistador Francisco Coronado; and a relic that feeds on human greed and chaos, threatening global catastrophe. As myth and reality collide, the sisters are pulled into a battle not just for survival—but for the future of civilization itself.”

“Handmade by a small group of Austin filmmakers with an all-Texas cast working with an extremely low budget over three years,” Logan tells us, “DRAGON focuses on using practical effects and real locations, with a strong influence of the fun and adventure of the movies from the 1980s. It was brought to life through the passion of independent filmmakers making a movie specifically for a genre audience looking for something different.” You can find out more about THE RELIC universe at its official website; we’ll keep you informed as DRAGON treks its way into distribution!
