20th Century Studios has acquired the horror feature Every House Is Haunted from Netflix, trade outlets reported this week, giving the long-gestating haunted house project a new home after half a decade in development.
The film is based on “The House on Ashley Avenue,” a story from Canadian writer Ian Rogers‘ 2012 collection Every House Is Haunted, published by ChiZine Publications. The story follows an insurance investigator sent to debunk a couple’s claim that their house is haunted, only to find his skepticism tested by a psychic and a string of occurrences he can’t explain away.
Netflix first optioned the project in 2021, with Corin Hardy (The Nun) attached to direct. Hardy has since exited, and directing duties now belong to Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, the duo behind this year’s Don’t Move, who also contributed to Raimi’s anthology series 50 States of Fright.
Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi are producing through Raimi Productions, alongside Roy Lee and Andrew Childs of Vertigo Entertainment. Rogers and Starlight Media are attached as executive producers, with Starlight having optioned the original book.
No casting, release date or budget has been announced, and 20th Century has not issued its own statement on the acquisition as of this writing.
