Jennifer Lawrence is heading into deep space. According to a report from Variety, the Oscar winner has joined the cast of The Flood, the next film from writer-director Zach Cregger, whose Weapons and Resident Evil reboot made him one of the most closely watched names in horror this year.
Details remain thin, but The Flood reportedly follows a spacecraft captain who leads her crew to investigate a mysterious signal broadcasting from a distant world, only to uncover an alien artifact capable of warping time, and the minds of everyone who comes near it.
Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment are producing alongside Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment, with Warner Bros. distributing after the project moved over from an earlier home at Netflix. For Lawrence, The Flood marks a return to genre territory after credits including Mother! and House at the End of the Street, and it arrives as she prepares to step back into the Hunger Games universe.
