Dark Sky Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Sender, the psychological thriller written and directed by Russell Goldman. The deal was negotiated by Dark Sky Films executive vice president Greg Newman with producers Jake Katofsky and Molly Hallam, and sets up a nationwide theatrical release for spring 2027.
Sender follows Julia, played by Britt Lower, a recovering addict rebuilding her life in a new rental home who starts receiving unmarked packages she never ordered. When she discovers she is not the only one, she is drawn into an investigation involving a delivery driver, her sister, a fellow member of her recovery group and another recipient named Lisa Barr, a search that forces her to confront her own past along the way.
The film also stars Rhea Seehorn, David Dastmalchian and Jamie Lee Curtis, who produced alongside Katofsky and Hallam, plus Anna Baryshnikov and Utkarsh Ambudkar. Since debuting at SXSW earlier this year, Sender has picked up Best Feature honours at the Sidewalk Film Festival, the Chattanooga Film Festival and the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation and Technology. The film is set for its international premiere at Spain’s Sitges Film Festival in October, with additional festival stops including Beyond Fest, ahead of its theatrical run.
“Russell has made the kind of bold, original thriller that immediately gets under your skin,” MPI Media Group executive vice president Justin DiPietro said of the acquisition.
The deal gives Sender a confirmed path to theatres after months of strong festival reception, keeping Curtis and Dastmalchian, both familiar names to horror audiences, on the radar ahead of a 2027 release. Rue Morgue will continue to track the film as a trailer and a firmer release date are announced.
