Video-game-based slasher “NIGHT SHIFT” sets release date

The convenience-store chiller is making the leap to the big screen.

Puppet Combo has announced that NIGHT SHIFT, its feature-film adaptation of its own popular video game, is currently in postproduction and set to hit theaters in October 2025. The game, first released in 2018, puts players into an isolated convenience store that becomes the stalking ground of a masked murderer. The movie version, written and directed by Puppet Combo creator Ben Cocuzza, stars Adrianne Knapp, Justin West, Phu Mau and Donald Morgan, with cameo appearances by YouTube legends Justin Whang and John Wolfe. The synopsis: “NIGHT SHIFT follows Debra [Knapp] as she works the overnight shift at a minimum wage gas station job. What begins as routine shelf-stocking and floor-sweeping quickly spirals into a heart-pounding descent into paranoia, dread, and blood-soaked madness.

“Shot on 16mm film, the movie will stay true to Puppet Combo’s signature VHS-style aesthetic, and obsessive attention to detail for a true ’80s slasher-style experience. Expect grainy textures, the creeping fear of being watched, and all the hallmarks of the Puppet Combo universe.”
