Encyclopocalypse and Shout! Factory team on “CHOPPING MALL” novelization

The Killbots are coming to the printed page.

Encyclopocalypse Publications has announced that it has teamed with Shout! Factory to publish a novelization of Jim Wynorski’s CHOPPING MALL, with a release date of November 19. The adaptation of Wynorski and Steve Mitchell’s screenplay is being written by Brian G. Berry, whose novelizations of DIY horror flicks like HOUSE SHARK, THE BARN and AMITYVILLE DEATH TOILET are currently available from Encyclopocalypse.

“As a kid, I watched tons of horror movies,” Berry says. “But none of them ever gave me that ‘creeped out’ feeling I was seeking until I saw the cover of the CHOPPING MALL VHS cassette sitting on the shelf of my local video store. From that point on, CHOPPING MALL had a special place in my heart. Fast forward 30 years, and here I am, honored to be writing the novelization for the first horror movie that ever creeped me out based on the cover alone.”

The CHOPPING MALL book is the first product of a partnership between Encyclopocalypse and Shout!, the latter of which owns the rights to producer Roger Corman’s library–so look for more novelizations of Corman’s cult faves in the future. Encyclopocalypse president and founder Mark Alan Miller has experience with Shout! from their team-up on the director’s cut of Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED, and says, “I relish the chance to collaborate with the good people at Shout! Factory again. CHOPPING MALL is one of my very favorite ’80s horror movies, and I know I’m not alone. I can say with confidence that Brian Berry has delivered something the fans will love.”

CHOPPING MALL will be available in trade and mass market paperback editions, as well as an audiobook read by veteran of the form Joe Hempel, who previously voiced Encyclopocalypse’s ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES! All of them are available for U.S. pre-order at the Encyclopocalypse website; international pre-orders via various on-line booksellers will be open soon.
