Like so many venues large and small, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania staple, The Colonial Theatre is barely scraping by in the COVID-19 era, but this beloved location has more of a nostalgic connection to film lovers than most. Not only did it serve as the shooting location for the iconic, oft-parodied movie theater attack in the 1958 drive-in classic THE BLOB, but the moviehouse is also home to Blobfest, an annual 3-day event commemorating the film that’s become a pilgrimage for sci-fi and horror fans young and old.
With the pandemic showing no signs of slowing down, The Colonial Theatre is increasingly reliant on donations to keep it thriving, and has just launched its first GoFundMe campaign. With a December 31st goal of raising $150,000, The Colonial needs fans from the world over to help stay in business and preserve a piece of genre film history.
