The continued closure of theaters due to the pandemic has led to the reshuffling of a bunch of horror release dates.
Variety reports that Universal Pictures has shifted the new CANDYMAN (pictured) three weeks from September 25 to October 16 of this year. The follow-up to the 1992 classic, directed by Nia DaCosta from a script she wrote with producers Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, was initially set to debut June 12. As a result of that move, HALLOWEEN KILLS, the first of David Gordon Green’s two sequels to his Michael Myers reboot, has been delayed from October 16, 2020 to October 15, 2021, and HALLOWEEN ENDS has been similarly taken off the latter date and set for October 14, 2022. In addition, THE FOREVER PURGE, the fifth in Universal and Blumhouse’s successful franchise, has been dated for July 9, 2021. As schedules continue to be in flux as theater chains weigh their reopening plans, the first major genre release is currently set to be Solstice Studios’ Russell Crowe-starrer UNHINGED on July 31, while Fox still has THE EMPTY MAN dated for August 7.
