Shudder grabs and dates “IMPETIGORE,” from “SATAN’S SLAVES’ ” Joko Anwar; trailer & poster

Following a highly successful run in its native Indonesia and an international premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the generational fear fest is headed for a summer streaming premiere.

Shudder has announced that it has picked up Joko Anwar’s IMPETIGORE for all its territories, and will premiere in the U.S., Canada and the UK July 23. The film stars Tara Basro and Asmara Abigail from Anwar’s previous SATAN’S SLAVES, along with Marissa Anita, Ario Bayu and Christine Hakim. “IMPETIGORE is my love letter to horror movies I grew up with, slashers, ghost stories, wrapped in a tragic family drama not unlike my family,” Anwar says. “I’m excited to be working again with Shudder to bring IMPETIGORE to their members around the world.”

Indeed, SATAN’S SLAVES has been one of the streaming service’s most popular and critically acclaimed titles. “Joko Anwar is a master of modern horror,” says Shudder’s Craig Engler, “and SATAN’S SLAVES is one of the most loved—and scariest—movies on Shudder. We couldn’t wait to work with him again and are thrilled to share his scary, visceral and darkly sinister IMPETIGORE with Shudder members.”
