Directors set for “SCREAM” reboot at Spyglass Entertainment

With all the ’80s slasher classics seemingly remade in the 21st century, now the biggest killer franchise of the ’90s is getting an update, and filmmakers have been attached.

Variety reports that Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of READY OR NOT will be at the helm of Spyglass’ new version of SCREAM, the series launched by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s 1996 sleeper hit. Spyglass landed the rights after parent company Lantern Entertainment acquired the film assets of the Weinstein Co. two years ago. Writing and acting talent have yet to be confirmed (though the IMDb is listing original heroine Neve Campbell as the star) for the new SCREAM, which will follow up on the sequels released in 1997, 2000 and 2011. READY OR NOT, the Samara Weaving-starring human-hunting horror film that won widespread praise last year, became the biggest hit yet for Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, who also helmed DEVIL’S DUE and, as part of the Radio Silence collective, contributed segments to the anthology chillers SOUTHBOUND and V/H/S.
