There are lots of bad things in store this month.
The trailer has been unveiled for SOMETHING VERY BAD IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN, the eight-episode Netflix series debuting March 26. BABY REINDEER director Haley Z. Boston created the show, serves as showrunner and is an executive producer along with STRANGER THINGS’ Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer and Hilary Leavitt, Weronika Tofilska and frequent Gregg Araki collaborator Andrea Sperling. Tofilska is also one of the directors along with Axelle Carolyn (AMERICAN HORROR STORY, MAYFAIR WITCHES) and Lisa Brühlmann (BLUE MY MIND, SERVANT). Camilla Morrone, Adam DiMarco (UNDERTONE), Jeff Wilbusch, Karla Crome, Gus Birney, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine and Sawyer Fraser star.
The synopsis: “If CARRIE is horror’s version of a girl becoming a woman, and ROSEMARY’S BABY is the horrific version of a woman becoming a mother, SOMETHING VERY BAD IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN is horror’s take on a woman becoming a wife. Rachel [Morrone] is getting married in five days. Together with her fiancé, Nicky [DiMarco], she embarks on a road trip to his family’s vacation home, secluded in a snowy forest, for the intimate wedding ceremony of their dreams. Which really would be so lovely, except…prone to superstition and paranoia, Rachel can’t shake the relentless feeling that something bad is going to happen. Her foreboding doubts, coupled with a series of eerie coincidences and dreadful surprises, force her to ask the question: What makes two people soulmates? And worse—what could be scarier than lifelong commitment to the wrong person?”
In anticipation of the series’ debut, its creator has curated “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen: A Walk Down the Aisle With Haley Z. Boston,” a series of films that served as her inspirations for the project. Running March 20-April 2 at New York City’s Paris theater and March 23- April 2 at Los Angeles’ Egyptian theater, it includes classic and cult horror films and thrillers including ROSEMARY’S BABY, THE WICKER MAN, CARRIE, POSSESSION (4K restoration), YOU’RE NEXT and more; at the Paris, the lineup also includes DRAG ME TO HELL and 35mm showings of the original FUNNY GAMES and THE VANISHING and Thom Eberhardt’s SOLE SURVIVOR.
