The actress has taken her first step toward scaring up an Oscar nomination.
Various sources are reporting that Amy Madigan has won the New York Film Critics Circle award for Supporting Actress in Zach Cregger’s WEAPONS. Madigan, whose previous genre credits include George A. Romero’s THE DARK HALF and Scott Cooper’s ANTLERS, surprised and scared audiences everywhere with her portrayal of Aunt Gladys, who’s at the center of the terror in Cregger’s film. She’s been talked up as a potential Oscar nominee for her WEAPONS turn, and though the Academy has been notoriously averse to recognizing actresses in fright fare (Kathy Bates and Jodie Foster’s wins for MISERY and THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS notwithstanding), the NYFCC honor hopefully portends a change in that attitude for Madigan.
