Some folks have strange ideas of what they consider amusing, but the debut feature from Christopher Cartagena González explores a perverse form of entertainment that even hardened horror fans may have a hard time digesting.
Shot with support from the Spanish government and debuting at Fantastic Fest 2025, DISFORIA follows married couple Esther and Tomás and their daughter as they escape urban blight for their country home—only to find that life is way scarier in the woods.
From the press release:
“In a dystopian near-future plagued by economic collapse and a suicide epidemic, a couple with a young daughter is just trying to survive, taking each harrowing day as it comes. When the father goes missing, the distraught mother desperately searches for answers while fending for herself and their child. A strange woman visits after the disappearance, claiming to know where he is, but the actual truth is sickening: the woman is part of a community that pays to see real-life acts of torture on the dark web.”
DISFORIA stars Claudia Salas, Fariba Sheikhan and Noah Casas, and will premiere at Fantastic Fest 2025 in Austin, TX, September 18th-25th.
